About this policy
This policy covers the Threadline web app, the Threadline connector for Claude and ChatGPT, the Threadline Conversation Bridge extension, and our privacy and help pages. Threadline is operated by Samuel Owoade. Contact: sojowoade@gmail.com. Our terms of service also apply.
Threadline is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
1. What we collect
- Your account and content: account email and any supplied name; messages, AI replies, topics, corrections, and connection history; uploaded files, filenames, and extracted text or image descriptions. Chats and files may contain sensitive information you include.
- Imports: ZIP/JSON exports are inspected on your device. Only chats you select and confirm are uploaded. User-started extension captures read the open ChatGPT conversation’s visible messages, formatting, links, attachment labels, title, URL, message order, and capture details—not attachment contents.
- From Claude and ChatGPT (only if you connect them): what your assistant sends with Threadline’s tools. That means notes you ask it to save; a message and its reply when you ask it to save an exchange (or, if you added Threadline with the automatic-filing link, each exchange in chats where you use Threadline); and the questions it sends to search or catch up on your projects. We also keep connection details: which assistant, the projects you shared, read or save permission, default project, filing setting, and when it was last used. Threadline never reads your Claude or ChatGPT history; it receives only what the assistant sends.
- Support and operation: information you email us; private problem-report categories and reply references; AI usage counts, account ID, model, operation, time, and status. Usage records do not contain message text, file contents, or filenames. Providers may process IP addresses, browser information, and diagnostic logs.
We use sign-in cookies and browser storage for sessions and account verification. The extension does not read your ChatGPT password, authentication cookies, unrelated websites, or general browsing history. Our pages add no advertising or third-party analytics scripts.
2. How it is used and shared
We use this information to run your account, organize and continue conversations, provide search and recovery, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
- Netlify provides hosting, account sign-in, and storage for chats and files. Access is checked against your account.
- OpenAI processes relevant messages and context for confirmed imports or syncs, AI replies, and subject checking. A subject check may send text before you submit the message. Other saved projects are included only when you select them.
- Files and optional search: PDF and text files are processed on our server; relevant text can be sent to OpenAI for replies. Images are sent to OpenAI only after you allow analysis. Enabling web search sends your current question to OpenAI’s web-search service, not the full project history.
- Your connected assistant: when you ask Claude or ChatGPT to recall something or catch you up, Threadline sends matching notes, saved exchanges and short excerpts from the projects you shared back to that assistant. They then become part of that chat, which Anthropic or OpenAI handles under its own policies. To place what an assistant saves, OpenAI may also process a note you ask to save without naming a topic, and a saved message whose topic name is new.
This service is not end-to-end encrypted. Providers process data under their own policies and may retain it; we do not promise zero retention. Processing may occur outside your country. See Netlify’s privacy policy, Anthropic’s privacy policy, OpenAI’s privacy policy, and OpenAI’s API data controls.
Limited use: our use and transfer of extension data is limited to disclosed user-facing features and follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not sell conversation data or use it for advertising. Human access to conversation content is limited to your consent for support, necessary security investigation, or legal obligations.
3. Extension access
The extension requests access to ChatGPT’s current and legacy websites to capture a chat you choose, and to the Threadline app to transfer it for review. Scripting starts the capture; local browser storage holds a temporary copy. It does not request access to all websites.
Capture and sync are manual and one-way. You review before saving. Threadline does not change your original ChatGPT chat or send replies back to it.
4. Claude and ChatGPT
You connect an assistant from Claude or ChatGPT, then approve it on Threadline’s own page. There you choose which projects it may use and whether it may save. You can change both later in Connected assistants.
- Threadline from the Claude or ChatGPT directory saves only what you ask it to save. Nothing is saved in the background.
- Threadline added to Claude with the automatic-filing link also keeps chats where you use Threadline in your project, unless you turn that off or say “stop filing” in a chat.
- Sign-in: the connection’s tokens are stored hashed by Threadline and encrypted by the connector. Access tokens last 15 minutes and are renewed automatically. Disconnecting, or deleting your account, revokes them at once.
Threadline is an independent product. Using it does not change how Anthropic or OpenAI handle your chats; their own policies and settings still apply there.
5. Keeping and deleting data
Saved content: projects stay until you delete them. Deletion removes the project, its reports, recovery history, import/restore records, and files from active storage. Duplicate-cleanup copies remain recoverable until the project is deleted. Removing a file deletes its original and searchable text, but not earlier answers that quoted it.
Deleting your account: removes every project and its chats, notes, saved exchanges, topics and files, together with your assistant connections and your sign-in. Claude and ChatGPT lose access at once. Deleted data leaves the service backups below within 8 days.
Your downloaded backups: project backups contain saved chats, corrections, recovery history, and uploaded files. They are not encrypted: anyone with a copy can read or restore it. They contain no sign-in credentials or service API keys. Deleting a project or account does not remove downloaded or shared copies.
Service backups: we make encrypted daily copies of the database and uploaded files, including account ownership and corrections, for authorized operators to recover the service. Passwords and API keys are not included. We keep the seven most recent successful copies. Deleted data can remain in them until replaced; if backups stop, the last successful copies remain. They are not public downloads.
Temporary data and retention details
- Extension captures: the local copy is removed when the review screen receives it. A failed transfer can leave it until a successful transfer or local data removal; it has no automatic expiry.
- Unfinished imports: confirmed data remains privately until completion or discard, without automatic expiry. On completion, staging message copies are removed and a duplicate-detection record stays until project deletion.
- Large upload parts: removed after assembly. Abandoned parts expire after 30 minutes and are cleaned up when a later upload begins.
- Unfinished restores: private temporary copies can resume within 24 hours. Expired copies are removed when you next start a restore. Successful restores keep their files in the new project and a minimal retry record until project deletion.
- AI usage records: remain after project deletion to enforce allowances. Records older than 31 days are removed when a later authenticated AI operation starts. After account deletion they no longer name your account.
- Assistant connections: a disconnected connection leaves a record without content (assistant, dates) until you delete your account. Renewal tokens last up to 30 days. A save’s result is kept for 24 hours so a retried save is not stored twice.
Expiry is not a promise of deletion at that exact time. Support emails and provider-held logs, backups, or retained data may follow separate retention rules.
Uninstalling the extension does not delete saved web-app projects. Deleting Threadline content does not alter your original ChatGPT chat. Transfers use HTTPS and access checks protect account content, but no online service can guarantee absolute security or instant erasure of every provider copy.
6. Your choices and requests
You choose what to import, whether to allow image analysis or web search, and whether to include other projects as context. You can correct topics, download backups, remove files, and delete projects. In Connected assistants you choose which projects each assistant can use, its default project and whether chats are filed automatically, and you can disconnect it. You can delete notes and saved exchanges, or your whole account (Getting started & your data → Delete your account). Help explains these controls.
For access, correction, export, or deletion requests, email sojowoade@gmail.com. We may verify account ownership. Do not send passwords, identity documents, private backups, or whole conversations in your initial email.
We update the date above when this policy changes. Material changes to data handling will be explained before affected new uses begin.
